Indianapolis Colts

13 January 2009

In the aftermath of Tony Dungy's recent retirement from the NFL, there really isn't much more I can say about him that hasn't already been said.  He proved that an NFL Head Coach doesn't have to yell and scream at his players in order to motivate them to play football.

and other bloggers provide the real analysis, but I was deeply saddened, a bit shockingly so, that Indianapolis Colts' head coach Tony Dungy is calling it quits. I am not a true Colts' fan, but have considered myself to be halfway on the bandwagon since going to school in Anderson (IN) and watching all those games with Coach Dungy, Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Edgerrin James, Joseph Addai, Adam Vinatieri, Dwight Freeney, Bob Sanders, Dallas Clark, and others play. Even as one who followed the Jags more closely this year than the Colts, it's been a great run for the Colts, and I'm sad to see it go, at least with Dungy at the helm.

have been playing playoff quality ball for several weeks.  The bad news is, they must face the Indianapolis Colts in the 1st round.  Norv must be wondering why…why?  This should be a great game, but the Colts are just a much better team.  Dungy, in what could be his last season, won’t settle for a 1st round loss.  Look for the Colts to make a deep run…they are my favorite to win the Super Bowl…but that’s getting too far ahead.  Indianapolis 37, San Diego 29.

(meaning they are most likely completely wrong!) predictions for the other three wild card games:

Indianapolis Colts at San Diego Chargers: Although Indy has been the hottest team in either league of late and the Bolts won their division with a very mediocre 8-8 record, I think that the Chargers will prevail on their home turf.  Talent-wise, both teams match up very equally, but the Chargers' defense is finally coming around and their offense (when they put their mind to it, which SHOULD happen in the playoffs) can be very dangerous.  If the Colts are going to succeed, it will have to be on the shoulders of Peyton Manning, as I really don't see Joseph Addai or Dominic Rhodes taking over the game.  Prediction: SD 34, IND 24

The crystal ball had a mediocre performance this past week, going a mere 2-2.  We’re not sure what happened, but this is not acceptable.  The crystal ball took its lumps on the Cowboys game, but it may have been predicting with its heart rather than its fortune-telling powers?  Either way, that puts the crystal ball at 33-26-1 for the season.  That’s seven games over .500 (.558 to be exact).  Hopefully the crystal ball will perform better in the playoffs!  Let’s take a look back, and review what happened last week.

24 December 2008

On this Christmas Eve, coaches, players, and fans draw one day closer to the final week of the NFL 2008-2009 season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have fit the "playing for pride" bill quite well in the past couple weeks, knocking off an unlucky Green Bay Packers team, at home, and giving the 11-4 Colts everything they could handle before ending up on the losing end of some fourth quarter Peyton Manning heroics, 31-24, finishing the game with the ball on the Indy seven-yard line. Against the Colts, QB David Garrard was brilliant for three quarters, throwing for 329 yards through the air and a touchdown (and also running for one), WR Dennis Northcutt had another good game with 101 yards and a receiving touchdown, and Maurice Jones-Drew continued his late season push to be "the guy" next year with 91 yards rushing. The defense, on the other hand, played forgettably against Indianpolis's traditional offensive machine. This Sunday, the Jags travel to another cold weather city, Baltimore, for one last game that means...well, nothing.

Week 11 was one of the more interesting weeks in the NFL this season. A game ended in a 11-10 score for the first time in NFL history, a game ended in a tie and we also saw 'America's Team' get back on track with their star quarterback at the helm. I'll get to that and more as this week's Fallout report kicks off.......riiiiight now!

Sure, the Houston Texans lost a hard fought battle to the perennially good Indianapolis Colts. The problem, however sad it is, is not that they lost; but the way that Houston is going about their special brand of losing.

Overall Record: 12-12
Last Week's Record: 2-2

1) Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts

To me, this is like the Cowboys/Giants game from a couple of weeks ago. No one expected the beat up Cowboys to go into Jersey and defeat the defending Super Bowl Champions. And going into this game hardly anyone thinks the Texans have a shot at beating the Colts. That's because they don't. Their not beating the Colts in Indy. This is a team thats getting healthier each week and a team that is getting hotter as the weeks progress. This should be relatively easy for the Colts as the Texans' season continues to get more disappointing.

I don't know whether it's Jacksonville's disappointing start or the thick of a school year underway, but it's been a while since I've written.

After a brutal six-game stretch that included the Colts, Broncos, Titans, Steelers, and a first-place Bills team, the Jaguars actually sit in decent shape with their next three games consisting of 2-4 Cleveland, 0-7 Cincinnati, and 0-6 Detroit (not a bad time for a bye week and the soft part of the schedule, eh?) before hosting a rematch with Division leader, the Tennessee Titans, which already sounds like the type of game that could change a season if everything goes well.

You can read the experts picks, but I get my in formation in prettier packages. As for the Fantasy Sportsgirls - when all is seen and heard, more is seen than heard. NFC East

Week 6

Hello East Fans,

Well after a week of Hiatus to curse the football gods for my team’s embarrassing losses. I felt a preview of the Best division in Football was the only way to quench the thirst. Every team in the division except for Washington is on the road, let’s start with the leaders of the pack.

Winners - Pittsburgh Steelers

UPSET SPECIAL
4) Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans

I bet you don't know who I'm picking with the BIG CAPITAL LETTERS that say UPSET SPECIAL right above the game huh? Anyways on paper, the Colts out-match the Texans in almost every position. From Manning to Schaub to the ruffled Texans defense as of late. Manning and company have only lost 1 TIME to the Texans in the Texans history and that was by a game winning field goal. So the Colts know how to beat the Texans. They have crippled the Texans in the past. Oh and not to mention the Colts are coming off a BYE whereas the Texans lost a close, hard-fought game to rivals Jacksonville in overtime last week. Doesn't look good for Houston. Hasn't looked good for Houston all season (0-3). Will the sun ever come out? Well I have my crystal ball in my hand and IT DOES. The sunshine does shine for the Texans in Week 5! I was stunned myself when I looked into it. I had to look twice to make sure I saw the score right. So therefore I'm taking the Houston Texans. It's their long awaited home opener. I'm hoping my crystal ball isn't malfunctioning or I'll have to take it back to the crypt. But my crystal ball has never been wrong! It's never been used! Until now!

The Crying Game

The Terrell Owens story

Hello NFL fans,

Well here we are, week four of the third year with his last team. This will be his last team, I truly believe that. If I were an owner I would rather get a letter full of anthrax and then imprisoned IN Cuba to spend the rest of my days. The continuous onslaught of reporters and fans condemning my name and wanting my head on a stick would be too much for me to bare.

We're three weeks in and the Bills are undefeated the Colts and Jags are 1-2, Gus Ferrotte is a undefeated quarterback and Matt Cassel is leading the Patriots. With this intruiging start to the NFL season many fans may be wondering if their team can keep up the good play, or if their team will right the ship and make it to the post season.

On a day when the NFL's most dominant team of the past decade got drilled by one of the worst and several more games went down to the last play, Jacksonville's Josh Scobee experienced a little deja vu as he nailed a 51-yarder (the last time the Jags beat the Colts it was a 53-yarder that won it) to help the Jags knock off the Peyton Manning and the Colts at home. Both teams surprisingly stand at 1-2 behind the unexpected division leader, the Tennessee Titans, at 3-0.
